Bridgelift received the ESTA Award of Excellence 2023
Normally, you rarely notice the work that goes into building a bridge. But when BMS lifted a 95-ton steel bridge on Lynetteholm, the task became so complex and unique that it was awarded the ESTA Award of Excellence 2023.
The task consisted of transporting and lifting a 95 ton movable steel bridge, where the crane setup had to be changed from single lift to tandem lift in order to position the bridge correctly on a 7.5 m wide road on a dam.
The bridge was delivered by truck to the rear of the crane, where a Liebherr LTM1750-9.1 (800t version) with Y-guided boom was set up. In order to have sufficient capacity, the bridge was lifted over the rear of the crane. Since the capacity was still not enough to place the bridge in its final position, an additional Liebherr LTM1450-8.1 was placed on the opposite embankment to assist the lift for the last 10 meters.
The rigging was carried out from a man basket lifted by a third crane, a Liebherr LTM1130-5.1. Prior to the lift, concrete foundations were established under all outriggers to ensure the earth-moving capacity. The solution, carried out for DANPRO Steel Construction A/S, made it possible to use smaller cranes, reduce preparation time on site and at the same time keep costs much lower than with a single-crane solution.
The bridge was established in connection with the construction of Lynetteholm, a new peninsula in Copenhagen, as part of the city's overall storm surge protection. The peninsula is built from surplus soil from construction projects in and around Copenhagen, which also contributes to reducing CO2 emissions from soil transportation.
