Safe Renovation in a Nature-Protected Area
BMS Kolding assisted JTN Stål ApS in securing Gelsbro for the future. The task involved lifting the bridge to a parking area where the renovation work could be carried out. The lift was performed using a Liebherr LTM1250 mobile crane.
The lift itself was not technically complicated, but working in a nature-protected area was challenging, as the crane had to be kept within specific distances from the road and grass areas. After sandblasting, rust treatment, damage assessment, repairs and painting, the bridge was returned to its original location using a Liebherr LTM1500 mobile crane.
Gelsbro has a long history. After Denmark’s defeat in the war against Prussia and Austria in 1864, the area became part of a new Danish-German border, and the bridge served for many years as a border crossing and customs station. Today, Gelsbro is once again part of Denmark and stands as a protected historic landmark, which BMS has helped secure for the future.
